Brief Bio
I am an intersectional theorist who leverages qualitative methods to investigate how social lives are shaped by racialized, gendered, and classed processes.
My book in progress—currently under advanced contract with the University of Chicago press—locates upward mobility as a meaning making experience and investigates how upward mobility shapes identity (re)construction and decision-making among Black professionals.
My research advances theories of Black femininity, Black masculinity, Marriage/Family, Cultural studies, and Social Class.
My work has been published in Gender & Society, Journal of Marriage and Family, Sociological Focus, and the American Journal of Public Health.
I completed a PhD in Sociology at Rice University in May 2021 before joining the VMware Women’s Leadership Lab at Stanford University as a post-doctoral fellow.
In Fall 2023 I joined the Sociology and Anthropology department at North Carolina State University as an assistant professor of sociology.
